Literature Review
• Hi mortality in the Elderly by DOPPS study was
felt to be related to infectious complications from
TDC’s
• Lazarides: Meta analysis demonstrated increased
failure rate of radial cephalic fistulas over Brachial
cephalic fistulas in the Elderly
• Age Greater than 65 doubled the risk of non
maturity within 6 months of placement, 70% more
likely to have failure of their fistulas at one year
than younger patients.
