Consensus Statement
•
Anti Platelet Therapy
•
Aspirin is recommended for asymptomatic patients
•
Aspirin, plavix or combination aspirin/dipyridamole is recommended
for patients with history of symptoms. (Not ASA & Plavix)
•
Anti-Platelet Therapy is recommended over oral anticoagulation for
patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic disease.
•
Patients with Aspirin allergy can be treated with plavix or ticlopidine.
•
No role for therapeutic anticoagulation to treat symptomatic carotid
disease
•
Plavix and Aspirin should not be given together within 3 months of
TIA or CVA.
